DESERT  STORM

When setting sun paints the sky with amber hue,
And thunder rumbles as if on cue;
When lightning flashes its ghostly light,
Issuing its challenge to encroaching night;

When wind whips dust and sand into stinging lash,
Heralding haboob's approaching clash;
When mesquite and palo verde trees whip and sway,
And saguaro needles enter the fray;

When driving rain pounds sun baked clay,
And the precious water is swept away;
When flash flood warnings are issued for a paltry inch of rain
And you begin to wonder if weathermen are ALL insane;

Then know you have arrived in The Valley of the Sun,
And your descent into madness has merely begun.
A land where snow and ice are virtually unknown,
And Christmas lights on cacti are sown.
